Ateneo Porfirio Barba Jacob Corporation
Since 1994, Ateneo has been a leading cultural institution in Medellín, fostering valuable spaces for engaging with contemporary ideas. Over its 24 years of continuous work, it has played a key role in the city’s cultural transformation.
This cultural center is divided into three main spaces:
- This 350-seat venue hosts around 200 performances annually, ranging from plays and rock concerts to dance shows, storytelling, poetry readings, and academic conferences.
- Ateneo Gallery. Located at the entrance of the cultural center and curated with the support of the Piso Alto Curatorial Club, the gallery spotlights emerging local artists, often showcasing their first solo exhibitions. It also hosts musical performances, poetry readings, academic gatherings, and more.
- Porfirio’s Café. A cozy space for artists and audiences to connect over music and conversation. The café regularly features small-format artistic projects, including singer-songwriter sessions, performances in unconventional spaces, poetry readings, and dramatic recitations.
