Avenida Ayacucho

Avenida Ayacucho is one of the longest streets in Medellín, stretching from east to west, and a key feature of the Buenos Aires neighborhood, one of the city’s oldest and most traditional areas. This avenue is traversed by the Ayacucho tramway, part of the Medellín metro, which transports over 90,000 passengers daily. Along the route, visitors can admire the works of 27 artists featured in murals and public art installations that form the open-air graffiti gallery.

The gallery showcases a vibrant collection of artworks created using techniques such as traditional murals, graffiti, and painting. These artistic expressions invite both locals and visitors to reflect on and appreciate the rich culture and traditional crafts of Antioquia, extending art beyond the confines of conventional museums. Notable artists along Ayacucho avenue include Colectivo Huellas, Ceroker, and AKS Crew.

The Ayacucho tramway also provides easy access to the Casa de la Memoria Museum, located approximately 400 meters from Bicentenario station. This museum amplifies the voices of victims of the armed conflict during one of the most violent periods in the history of both the city and the country. It serves as a vivid reflection of the social reparation and reconstruction processes that Medellín has undergone.

The museum has become a powerful tool for symbolic reparation and is now a national reference point, fostering ongoing reflection on the past and contributing to the construction of peace.
