Expoartesano: 10 years uniting the cultures of Colombia

From May 10 to 19, 450 exhibitors will delight with the different crafts of Colombia to the approximately 40,000 local and foreign visitors that Expoartesano expects to receive in its tenth version in Plaza Mayor, Medellín.

Expoartesano is a space where artisans, their knowledge and traditions are promoted, and ethnic, traditional and contemporary handicrafts are displayed, representing the knowledge of 450 artisans from different communities from all corners of Colombia.

The fair this year will focus on reviving this decade in which it has gathered, in one place, the different cultures that inhabit the national territory, part of the ancestral legacy and the heritage heritage of future generations.

115 representatives, from more than 20 indigenous communities, will be present at the Pavilion La Memoria, in Plaza Mayor.

Ethnic Program

The Etnias program, dedicated to working for the well-being of indigenous communities, will be present in the White Pavilion, La Memoria, with the participation of about 20 ethnic groups in the country such as Wayúu, Arhuaco, Misak, Embera Chamí, Pasto, Okaina , Zenú and afrodescendants.

To walk through this pavilion will be to delve into the original crafts, what we think banks are used in the rituals of Vaupés and Putumayo, in the colorful backpacks Wayúu, La Guajira, and in the werregue baskets woven by the Wounaan community , in the Chocó.

On the other hand, the National Jewelery Program, comes with a collection of Mompox, Bolívar; Guapi, Cauca; Barbacoas, Nariño; Santa Fe de Antioquia, Marmato, Caldas; Valle and a small sample of Quibdó jewels, in Chocó. The inspiration of these collections comes from the nature that surrounds them, as in the case of Guapi, which is nourished by the fishing tradition to make abstractions of the shapes of fish scales.

Expoartesano is a bet for the design applied to crafts, and the articulation of the artisan sector with other creative industries to generate greater income opportunities for artisans.🤠✌
